Lessons Learnt

Dear Sec 3s,

I will like to share with you a few points that you can/should/must learn from last Friday's training.

1. Follow instructions.

“He that cannot obey, cannot command.” — Benjamin Franklin


When instructions are given, follow. If you expect cadets to follow your instructions, you must first learn to follow those given to you.

2. Remember your skills.

There is no point in learning new skills when you cannot remember those taught in the past. By not showing the knowledge of your past skills, you are portraying a poor impression and that deters us from teaching you new skills. To put it simply, you give us no confidence to impart new skills to you since you will have a very high tendency to forget.

Your desire to learn, and the willingness for us to teach, can only be as strong as your ability to remember and showcase your skills.

If you choose to do nothing about it, then don't expect anything from us.

3. Aim for 100% PICARD.

It was mentioned last year that we will strive to aim for 100% PICARD for the year 2013. Up till now in February, please ask yourself this: Have I put in my best to strive towards that goal? From my point of view, it is apparently not. For the past 2 consecutive trainings, I have seen notebooks belonging to your squad being left behind on the table at the HOD after dismissal. There is not much to say. These irresponsible actions have spoken for themselves.

Please do some self-reflection over the next 2 weeks, and think about how you can improve for yourself, and also as a squad. I look forward to see a more motivated and stronger squad of Sec 3s in the months to come.
