Unit BBQ 2015 AAR

Dear Sec 2s,

I hope most of you have learnt something out of today's After Action Review (AAR) session. It is good to see that some of you are actively involved in the discussion. For those who have little words to share, you should start to speak up more and louder too! Not to worry, this is after all your first AAR for your first event. There will be a few more events in 2016 to be organised by you people. =P

Allow me to emphasize once again on the highest priorities of an organiser.
1. Safety
2. Objective
3. Participation

Lastly, please consult your Squad CI to obtain a copy of the AAR Minutes, which is a document that recorded all of our exchanges and discussion during the 2-hour session.

Thank you and have a great holiday!

Regards,
H/Insp (NPCC) Loh Yi Xiang

UG Drill Competition on 18 September 2015

Firstly, I would like to congratulate each and everyone of my squadmates and sec 2s that had participated in the competition! Honestly, you all did very well.Position does not matter but what matter is the knowledge and experience gained:)
Before the competition, I was feeling nervous yet excited.Nervous because we didi not practice that much and excited because the day of the competition had arrive and finally get to showcase our drills.I am very confident that we can do this very well and not screwed up because during trainings,we did relatively well.
During the competition, I was feeling nervous .My mind went blank and praying hard i could remember the drills.I don't want to ruin the mage of NPCC.We did well for the first 2 parts. When it comes to the marching part,we messed up.We couldn't hear the commander and the timer was giggling at some point of the time. But i know we all did our best to perform those drills and put in a lot of effort to maintain the dressings etc.It is nobody's fault. One for all,all for one.
After the competition,i was really exhausted yet satisfied as it is finally over.Looking back at our mistakes makes me want to do it again. We could have done this better but it's okay.At least, our basics are there and i hope we could maintain that standard or best, improve it throughout NPCC journey. :)
-A/Sgt FAHMI

Before the competition,i was really really nervous. A lot of questions came across my head and my head was blank the moment you told us that all of us to go to the parade square for preparation, but when our time came, i told myself to just for it and don't care whoever its is watching, but the good thing is that i felt confident and i remembered back all the commands, but after a while when i see our squad messed up pretty bad, i felt so disappointed because it was my fault also for not commanding loud enough. After the whole thing ended i felt super disappointed and low.I really had no mood but after hearing the judges comment i actually felt motivated somehow. After Maam Amy told us not to be sad and cheered us up i felt 100% better especially with the ice-cream to accompany .Overall whati feel about the squad,i a little bitdissapointed for marching but they did perfect for the first and second part. These words realyy come from the bottom of my heart:)

Drill Competition Comments

Hi Drill Com Participants,

Hope you have gained some experience from this competition itself! Although we may have not have gotten any prizes or etc, just remember this quote,

'Win or lose, I'll feel good about myself. That's what is important.'  - Mary Docter

I believe you have trained well enough under CI Raihan and have performed nicely. Even though there were a little screw ups here and there. If you think you can improve on your steps in your drills, then find time to practice it and make it perfect. A simple way to do it is to ask your respective Squad CIs as we are the ones that you can approach. We may scold you time in time. But it's because we want you to learn well.

Hopefully you guys will not be too affected into this results. And I wish you all the best in your exams in the coming weeks and I hope to see you all in the next training to come. :)

Regards,
CI (NPCC) Lukas Heng

Comments on Training [7 September 2015]

Hi Drill Com Nominees,

Just some comments for you to have your heads up on.

1. Absense

The training post stated clearly that if you are unable to make it for training, you are to inform your respective CIs. I know that the SLs are having their camp, but what about those who are not? Is your Squad CI not important for you to inform them about you not coming for training?

2. Punctuality

When I arrived at 2:30pm, I could see that most of you are already ready. But some of you were still taking your time walking into the venue. When a CI gives you a specific time, please be there by that specific time no later. If you expect your cadets to fall in punctually, then why are you not showing the same attitude?

3. Ceremonial Drill Attitude

Please remember this. You are representing Damai NPCC in the Inter-UG Drill Competition. We as CIs took time off from our families/friends to ensure that you are trained up to standard for the competition. If a simple mistake by a CI amuses you a lot, then please take over from us and do it instead yourself.

Another point I want to bring up is, simple things like clenching your fists, no sudden movements in a squad, if you can't follow simple gestures like this, then please return me your 2nd/3rd Class Drill Badge.

These comments may trigger some of you. But what I'm commenting here is what I have observed during training today. If you think you deserve to remain as part of the Drill Competition Squad, then show us that you really deserve it.

By all that being said, please ensure that you drink up and also rest well for training tomorrow.

Regards,
CI (NPCC) Lukas Heng

Dry Shoot on 06/07/15 and Practice Shoot on 09/07/15

Before the dry shoot, we felt very excited about it but anxious at the same time. Because we thought the dry shoot practice allows us to shoot a airsoft gun, or at least let us fire blank rounds. The thing that makes us 'sian' is the fact that there is no transportation available, to and fro.

During the event,we felt that the lecture about shooting and handling of the gun is very boring, but fun. The part that makes it boring is the fact that the slides feel like a repeat of the one that the instructor taught us during the lecture using the air pistol in school. We felt that the gun that we use during the dry shoot is very hard to handle, especially the thumb piece used to release the drum, or canister.

During the practice shoot, we felt very nervous when standing outside the firing range. The gun sounds were loud and scary. We feel nervous during the firing of the gun, because it was our first time handling something that is meant to kill. The recoil of the gun is manageable for us, although it might be hard for other people. We also felt that the bus trip is very long.

3rd Class Drill Badge Re-test & CPL Lashing Test

Dear Sec 2s,

You will be undergoing for a re-test for your 3rd Class Drill Badge.

Please ensure that your uniform is in tip-top condition and ensure that you memorize the commands as you will be required to command your own squad so that I can determine if you deserve the badge. Please remember that this is your FINAL re-test. If you deem to not pass the test, you will have to take the test with your Sec 1 juniors.

Improper attire or attire not up to standard will be a straight FAIL.

You will be tested on,

1. Your WOC
2. Statics
3. Turnings
4. Marching

Things that can make you fail easily
1. Unnecessary movement in a squad
2. Fists not clenched

You will also be undergoing for a Lashing Test.

This test will be the final component for you to get the rank of Corporal. (For those who are currently in the rank of CDT, you will be receiving your rank of Lance Corporal instead if you pass the test. You will need to hold this rank for a minimum of 4 months before I can allow you to be promoted to the next rank)

I will be giving last minute revision after your 3rd Class Drill badge test. So ensure you do not take too much time in your drill test so you will have more time to have a little more time on hands-on for lashings.

Please ensure that you are well-prepared for both tests as they will determine whether will you be promoted to the next rank.
